It’s often argued that cloud based computing started in the 60’s, but the Google’s and Amazon's of the world capitalized on the term in 2006.
Data and software has started to become accessible online at anytime, anywhere from any device. Cloud based software functions on remote servers, demonstrating an example of a SaaS (Software as a Service) business model. Accounting software provides users applications and platforms to access their data, which is stored in the cloud.
Cloud accounting software is a much more flexible option for users, who can access their personal financial data from any location. Cloud based technology also provides automatic updates on personal and financial information. The user has their financial profile presented to them in live time.
Additionally, cloud based software is easier to maintain on the company side. Backups and updates are done automatically, without needing any required downloads or installations on company desktops. Instead, companies pay a monthly subscription for the software. With noticeably less maintenance, management of the software becomes quite cost-effective.
One common concern with cloud based accounting software is that users personal data is unsafe. However, this is not the case. Financial information that is stored on-premise is much more accessible than data stored in the cloud. In order to reach cloud-based data, a login and password are required. Without these, the data is still safe, making cloud based accounting a more secure way to store financial information.
Cloud based software is an efficient way to manage your business, giving you more flexibility and a better, real-time analysis of information. This software is much easier to manage, allowing you more time to focus on your business goals.
The difference between the cloud based accounting offered by Patterson & Company, BOSS, and an accounting software you might find online is we offer real time support. A Patterson team member is available at all times to communicate in real time with you if there is an issue or you have a question regarding your BOSS account. With other accounting software companies the typical responder is a bot or prerecorded email. For more information on cloud based accounting or our services, please contact us at Patterson & Company.

The Department of Labor (DOL) announced a final rule that allows a much larger pool of employees to earn overtime if they work more than 40 hours per week. Specifically, the DOL raised the salary level for employees who are counted as “exempt” (or unable to earn overtime pay).
